Bloom Peters is the main protagonist and central character of Fate: The Winx Saga. She is portrayed by Abigail Cowen.
She is a 16-year-old fire fairy[1] from the First World (Earth) who arrives in the Otherworld to enroll at Alfea to learn to master her magical powers.[2] She is also the love interest of Sky.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Bloom was born a thousand years ago in the middle of an ancient war to a mother who had the Dragon Flame. However, Bloom's mother lost control of the Dragon Flame and thousands died, leaving her wracked with guilt for what she'd done and passing that burden onto her daughter. As such, after Bloom was born, her mother put her into stasis and put herself in the Realm of Darkness in order to protect Bloom from going down that same path.
Bloom was eventually found by Sebastian's father, a Blood Witch, released from stasis and taken to Aster Dell in an attempt by the witches to control the Dragon Flame. Rosalind eventually destroyed Aster Dell and saved Bloom, sending her to the First World (Earth), Gardenia, California, USA, to be raised by the couple Mike and Vanessa Peters. Bloom took the place of the unnamed biological daughter of the Peters family who died shortly after birth, unbeknownst to all of them.
Throughout the Series[]
Season 1[]
The season begins with Bloom walking into Alfea, she is new and waiting for Stella to show her around. She eventually gets impatient and starts walking where she meets Sky who notices her and decides to help her find her way. She and Sky have a conversation and establish that she is a fairy and he is a specialist, she goes on to tell Sky that from where she comes from there are no fairies, since she is from California and not the Otherworld (the land of the mystical beings). Three months ago, Bloom had no idea the Otherworld existed. Bloom meets up with Stella and tells her that she went through a portal in the middle of nowhere. Bloom meets with Headmistress Dowling where they discuss what she will be learning in the upcoming weeks and how she will slowly learn control. Bloom is frustrated that things will be slow, wanting to learn control quickly, but Alfea's curriculum is designed for future rulers, army leaders, scholars, and discoverers of lost magics. Dowling reminds her that there is "no other choice" for her to learn what she needs to know, "trust the process."
Bloom is in her room, where she is talking with her parents about her school, and how everyone seems nice but its five girls (Stella, Musa, Terra, Aisha and Bloom) in an enclosed space and goes to say "it's only a matter of time before we descend into a Lord of the Flies situation". Her parents go on to criticize how unsocial she is and how they want her to make friends. Bloom's parents believe she is at an International Boarding School in Switzerland. Aisha, Bloom new roommate, introduces herself after saving Bloom from an awkward question from her parents. Aisha is curious about the lies she heard in the phone call, and Bloom explains that her parents are human beings and she is a fairy, Headmistress Dowling had explained to Bloom she had a distant dormant relative who was a fairy.
While she is getting ready for the Orientation Party, Stella displays magic control in front of Bloom. Asking Stella about her magic, it is explained that Fairy Magic is linked to emotion, positive or negative. The stronger the emotion, the stronger the magic.
Thinking about her interactions with her mother causes Bloom to become strongly emotional. In a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that she has a poor relationship with her mother, often arguing about Bloom's lack of interest in spending time outside her room, or with friends; instead going to antique shops, rummage sales, and spending time alone. One such argument ends with Bloom slamming the door, yelling at her mother. Another flashback shows Bloom's father suddenly removing the door to her bedroom, as she is seen putting together a lamp. Upset, Bloom tries to appeal to her father, but her mother is angry that Bloom slammed the door, and her father agrees that Bloom needs to be more open with them. Taking away her door seems extreme to Bloom, but knowing that arguing with her mother will only make things worse, she stays quiet. That night, Bloom is unable to sleep, angry. A fire lights on the carpet in front of Bloom's bed, a slow moving line of fire leading out of her room, through the hallway, and into Bloom's parents room, lighting the bed on fire. Bloom's mother, Vanessa, ends up with third degree burns.
Avoiding the Orientation Party, Bloom leaves Alfea, going beyond the barrier, eventually finding a clearing in the forest to practice her magic in. Struggling with her magic, even after figuring out a trigger emotion, it becomes obvious she has little control, being unable to make the fire she creates go out. Aisha finds Bloom as she is losing control, throwing fire wildly at her feet. Bloom becomes angry that she is no longer alone, sending fire along the forest floor in Aisha's direction. Aisha defends herself with a wave of water, putting out Blooms flames.
The two return to the school, Bloom explaining to Aisha why she was in the forest, trying to figure out her magic, citing a terrible first experience with magic. Aisha doesn't think that justifies Bloom being in the dangerous forest alone, and responds that she also had a terrible experience with magic: because of a failed math test she had flooded her secondary school with the water from taps, sprinklers, and toilets, commenting "Have you ever waded through human poo? I have. Not pleasant. Sometimes being a fairy means you have to deal with shit."
After Bloom shares about the fire, Aisha finds it strange that Bloom could use such powerful magic, only having a distant relative as a fairy, and asks if Bloom could be adopted. Bloom denies this, having heard the story of her birth a million times, a miracle baby with a heart defect in the womb, but a day after her birth it was gone. Aisha determines Bloom must be a changeling, switched at birth, and a pure blooded fairy. Bloom storms off, after Aisha explains what a changeling is. In her room in the suite, she does research on changelings using her phone.
Confused and wanting to see her family, Bloom returns to Gardenia, with the help of the Gateway Ring that Stella lends to her. Knowing her parents think she is at school in Switzerland, she stays out-of-sight outside and calls them on the phone. Her parents tease her about having two calls in one day. On the verge of tears, Bloom reassures her parents that she is fine when they ask how she is. They mention that it is okay to not be okay, being sixteen and moving to the other side of the world takes bravery. She wonders if she made a mistake going to Alfea, to which her mother tells her she is "too special for somewhere like here, it's not who you are." She doubts that they really know her, but her father reassures her, "we are your parents" - "if we don't know you, nobody does."
Remembering the fire, Bloom decides she didn't make a mistake going to Alfea. Still concerned, her mother tells her that she can handle whatever she is going through, her path won't be like everyone else's, hard as that is, but she can't wait to see who Bloom will become.
Bloom returns to the Gateway location, which turns out to be where she stayed after the fire (scared to be at home, and hurt her parents again). In a small office space she had set up a bedroom of sorts, some of her things still in the room. Sitting on the bed, looking at her journal, Bloom hears something whisper her name. Looking through the blinds of the window above the bed, she sees a monstrous shadowy figure with a tail; she immediately hides, losing Stella's Gateway Ring as she falls onto the bed.
To escape the monster attacking her, Bloom climbs into a service space under some floor grates. When she sees Stella's ring, she tries to get to it, but it is on the other side of a vertical grate and she can't reach it before. The monster takes the ring. Breaking through a vent cover, she finds Dowling, who tells her to keep moving. Bloom runs through the Gateway into the forest where Terra, Musa, and Aisha are waiting. Bloom asks them about the monster, and Terra tells her she thinks it is a Burned One. The four return to their Suite, where Aisha tries to comfort Bloom, saying that Dowling will take care of the Burned One, her parents will be safe.
Bloom soon is graced by the dream of a woman telling her to look for her. She confronts Dowling after finding a picture of that woman to which the headmistress reveals that it is a woman named Rosalind Hale, who happened to be Dowling’s mentor and is now dead. Meanwhile, Bloom’s feelings for Sky continue to grow. As Silva’s condition worsen, it is apparent that there is more than one Burned One out there. But, the situation is taken care of when Bloom and her friends fight off a Burned One with the help of Dowling which results in Silva getting better.
Later, a frustrated Bloom joins Beatrix in finding out more about Rosalind which leads them to a place called Aster Dell. Beatrix shares with Bloom that it is the land where Dowling and her allies committed some heinous crimes of killing people alongside the Burned Ones. She also reveals that what happened at Aster Dell took place 2 days before Bloom’s birth .
On the way back to the academy Beatrix is imprisoned at Alfea and probed by the professors to reveal her plans. Bloom hatches a plan to help break Beatrix out as she can offer Bloom more information on Rosalind. Later, Bloom conjures her magic at the stone circle when she is discovered by Sky, who reveals to have been spying on her. The two promise to trust each other and they kiss but, Bloom ends up drugging him. The fire fairy then decides to confront headmistress Dowling about Aster Dell, who says that it was Rosalind who tricked them into attacking the place, and this resulted in some casualties. As a result, their old mentor and leader has been placed in stasis ever since.
Once Rosalind is free, she finally reveals to Bloom that her biological parents are alive and the Burned Ones are actually after her for her powers. Rosalind tries to activate Bloom’s full powers but, the latter realizes that she is being used. Instead, she follows her own will and lures the Burned Ones away from the academy as she unleashes her full power which is denoted by the emergence of her fire wings, something that has not happened in centuries. After the battle is over and Bloom comes out victorious, she decides to visit her parents on Earth and reveal to them her true identity.
She goes back home with her friends as things take a different turn in Alfea. While the girls are gone, Rosalind becomes the new headmistress after she kills Dowling in the woods.
Season 2[]
After a violent attack leaves Ivy, one of the Alfea students dead, and Devin injured, the rest of the student body wonders what is going on. Bloom mentions to her friends how Dowling is still missing, and thus, the girls all wonder if the two incidents are connected. After Silva goes on trial, Bloom hatches a plan so he can escape, and despite some close calls, it works, and he hides away with Sebastian Valtor, an old friend of his.
Eventually, Rosalind admits to Bloom that as the Blood Witches are becoming more powerful, but like with the Burned Ones, Bloom is once again the key to saving the Otherworld because of the dragon flame that is inside of her. Not long after, Bloom figures out that it is Sebastian behind the recent attacks. Surprisingly, when she confronts him, he doesn’t even deny it. His magic then causes Sky to have to kill Andreas because the latter is is unable to overcome Sebastian’s overwhelming powers.
After a trap against Sebastian fails, he uses his powers to attack Sky. Bloom and Sebastian make a deal so Musa can regain her magic. But during the deal, Sebastian tells Bloom that Rosalind killed Dowling. When Bloom confronts Rosalind with Sebastian’s accusation, Rosalind doesn’t even try to deny it. Rosalind becomes overly cocky about her own ability and attempts to kill Bloom. However, she is no match for Bloom. The fire fairy becomes much more powerful and enraged than anyone thought possible, and she burns Rosalind to death.
Following Rosalind’s death, Queen Luna announces that there will be a war. In the aftermath of that announcement, it doesn’t take long for Bloom to come clean. During Bloom’s trial, Queen Luna decides to place her in stasis and to be re-evaluated after 20 years. Later, Bloom has an emotional goodbye with Dowling.
With Sky trapped within the school grounds, Bloom is eager to try and rescue him before Sebastian can harm him. Beatrix continues to play both sides as she warns Stella of the danger that Sebastian will try and put Bloom in. It all comes to a head when Bloom stands off against Sebastian.
Before Sebastian can kill Bloom, Beatrix turns on him and saves the world. He returns the favor by killing Beatrix and nearly killing Sky. However, Bloom and her friends are finally able to defeat Sebastian. Unfortunately, Bloom is ashamed that history almost repeated itself, as she was close to loosing control of her powers and potentially killed many innocent people. Thus, she dies to close the portal to the Realm of Darkness, by staying in the aforementioned dimension. Once there, she comes across none other than her biological mother.
Personality[]
Before coming to the Otherworld, it’s implied that Bloom was bit of an introvert, due to her lack of interest in parties or socializing in general. Even going as far as saying that she, "doesn’t want to be a basic bitch" like her mother. The day she found out she was as a fairy was because of how strong her anger was towards her parents, hinting that she has bit of a temper. She is also very strong willed, loyal, fierce, curious, reckless and stubborn. Having little to no control over her powers made her confidence and self esteem in herself go down, but as the series goes on, she becomes more confident in herself and her powers.
Appearance[]
Bloom has red hair, blue eyes, and a pale, freckled complexion. She often wears her hair in either a high ponytail, a simple half-up half-down updo and down in loose waves. When using her powers, Bloom’s eyes glow orange.
Powers and Abilities[]
Basic Fairy Abilities[]
- Channeling: Like every fairy, Bloom possesses the ability to channel her own emotions as a source of power to fuel her magic. She also has the ability to channel the Stone Circle.
- Eye-Color Shifting: As a Fire Fairy, when Bloom’s powers are in use her eyes shift to orange.
Fire Fairy Abilities[]
- Pyrokinesis: She possesses the ability to generate and manipulate fire. She has demonstrated this ability on many occasions being able to: generate fire in her palms, send a concentrated flow of fire, as well as being able to generate fire onto external sources and even let it burn without actively concentrating on it.
- Fire Isolation: Bloom is capable of isolating the heat and flames of a source and leave things surrounding the fire untouched and unharmed. Primarily, she uses this ability instinctively, while generating fire from her hands or entire body, and not burn herself or even hair and clothes in the process. According to her diary she can avoid burns from other sources of fire, besides her own magic. In her classes, she seems to have mastered the ability, by burning only one piece of kindling and leaving the surrounding ones completely untouched by the fire.
- Thermokinesis: Bloom can generate heat, without the need of flames, in order to heat things up such as beer contained in cups.
Dragon Flame Abilities[]
Bloom was born with the Dragon Flame, an ancient power thought to be extinct.
- Burned Ones Manipulation: Due to the Burned Ones being created by the Dragon Flame, Bloom has power over them.
- Burned Ones Connection: The Dragon Flame allows Bloom to sense when Burned Ones are close. However, it creates a two-way connection, which also allows the Burned Ones to locate and go after her.
- Burned Ones Reversal: Bloom, when accessing the Dragon Flame, has the power to turn the Burned Ones back into their human form, which also kills them. It is unknown if she can turn a Burned One back into a human and keep them alive.
- Precognition: Bloom received visions of the conduit to the Realm of Darkness that Sebastian would later open up and of herself in the Realm.
Other Fairy Abilities[]
- Raw Magic/Energy Manifestation: Bloom is capable of channeling pure magic from her element and manifest it as waves of energy.
- Convergence Magic: With the use of a Convergence Crystal, Bloom managed to do a Convergence Ceremony.
- Transformation Magic: In A Fanatic Heart, Bloom awakened the ability to transform. While transformed, her magic is significantly amplified.
- Levitation: During transformation, Bloom can float in the air.
- Wings Manifestation: Using the Transformation Magic, Bloom grew fire wings.
Relationships[]
Sky[]
Sky is Bloom's main love interest and by the end of season 1, they've kissed twice, but it is unknown if they are dating.
When Bloom first came to Alfea in "To the Waters and the Wild", he is the first person she meets, and they take a liking to each other. After the first episode, Sky gets back together with his ex, Princess Stella. They grow close, but Bloom has a moment of distrust when she finds out that he had been spying on her for Silva.
In Season 2 the two are in a relationship for a year now. Throughout the Season their bond is getting stronger and stronger. In Episode 1, Bloom is on a mission with her friends to free Silva before gets send to exile for his crimes, for Sky‘s sake, even if he denies it. In Episode 2 Sky shows Bloom his place where he grew up and his horses. In his house they have their first time together, shortly before Andreas (Sky‘s father) burns his house down. In Episode 3 they get seated next to each other at the banquet, in Episode 4 they go to the Grapevine pub together. After killing his own father in self defense Bloom tries to comfort Sky while he‘s grieving but acting to be fine. He never shares his problems with Bloom because (quoting him) „you‘re the solution.“
After Bloom kills Rosalind, she‘s afraid of herself and her powers telling Sky she‘s a danger and needs to keep distance to protect him. After Bloom was put in stasis for her crimes he tries to see her, ending up in a cell for attacking the solarian guards. In Episode 7 Sky was taken as leverage for Sebastian to threaten Bloom to give him the dragon flame. After Beatrix sacrifices Sky to save the Otherworld, he‘s dead until Grey does CPR with blood witch magic.
At the end of the second Season Bloom and Sky say their last goodbye after Bloom decides to close the portal to the realm of darkness from the other side with the reason she doesn‘t belong to the Otherworld. Before she disappears they share their first „I love you“ and a last passionate kiss.
Stella[]
In Season 1, Stella and Bloom are shown to have an extremely conflicted relationship as a result to Stella's jealousy of Bloom and Sky's bond. However, as Stella becomes more vulnerable and open with the girls their relationship begins to blossom with Stella going to extreme lengths to help Bloom discover her heritage.
Vanessa[]
Bloom and Vanessa's relationship is another which shows signs of conflict and struggle. Vanessa's ideas of how Bloom should act and conduct herself creates a divide between the mother and daughter. This divide fuelled Bloom's anger enough to allow her to unleash fire upon her. However, with Bloom's return and reveal at the end of season one their relationship appears to be healing.
Mike[]
Mike and Bloom's relationship seems to be more stable than hers and her mothers.
Beatrix[]
Beatrix's sly and cunning nature made it hard for Bloom to trust her but with the shared bonding of their relationship to Aster Dell the two slowly grow more appreciative of eachother. This newfound appreciation was so appealing to Bloom she was willing to betray her suite mates for Beatrix.
Rosalind Hale[]
Rosalind and Bloom's relationship stems all the way back to the birth of Bloom when it is revealed Rosalind is the one who swapped Bloom in the First World. Following Bloom's return to The Otherworld, Rosalind begins to manipulate Bloom in order to set herself free from Dowling's confinement. With Rosalind's freedom a mentor and mentee relationship is formed between the two however short lived due to Bloom's realisations.
Farah[]
Farah administered Bloom to Alfea and took a very strong interest in her powers and her changeling nature. Farah's interest caused a lot of secrets being held between the two causing distrust between the two for most of the first season. However, when these secrets become unearthed the relationship between the two begins to grow.
Aisha[]
Aisha is Bloom's first friend and confidante at Alfea. In "To the Waters and the Wild" they were able to confide in eachother despite knowing very little about one another. Despite this bond, Aisha grows tired of monitoring Bloom and establishes she is done "pulling her from the edge". This creates a divide in the two's friendship as with Bloom's new found interest in Rosalind and friendship with Beatrix means more is being kept between the two. However, in "A Fanatic Heart" these issues are resolved when Aisha apologises for informing Farah of Bloom's location and Aisha aids her in transforming.
Musa[]
In Season 1, very little is explored of this relationship. However, Musa and Bloom do interact and Musa sides with Stella and Terra on helping Bloom uncover secrets of her origin.

Changes from Winx Club[]
Bloom is an adaptation of Bloom 
from Winx Club . Her cartoon counterpart was found in a fire as a baby by the man who eventually became her adoptive father. In the live-action series, Bloom was secretly switched with a girl who died after she was born due to a heart defect.

- She is a Harry Potter fan and was sorted into Ravenclaw, and sometimes into Slytherin.
- Bloom's Instagram User Name is "bloomerang04".
- She is the only member of the Winx Suite group who's name doesn't end with an 'A'.
- Bloom was born in 2004. This is a reference to the fact that the animated Winx Club series first premiered in Italy
in 2004. - Netflix created a Spotify playlist for the character.
- The actress who portrays Bloom, Abigail Cowen, also portrays Dorcas in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Dorcas is a member of the Weird Sisters, a witch trio whose antagonistic role towards the show's protagonist Sabrina Spellman makes them roughly analogous to the role of the Trix as the antagonists to Bloom in the animated Winx Club series.
- Just like in the show, the actors of Bloom and Sky are dating in real life as well (since September 2021)
